2016 LGBT Rainbow Europe and Trans Rights Maps launched
On May 10-12, the Government of Denmark hosted in Copenhagen the 4th European IDAHO Forum, “Building Bridges and Alliances”, marking the International Day Against Homophobia, Transphobia and Biphobia. The conference was visited by European ministers and governmental representatives, the European Commission, Council of Europe, ILGA-Europe and other important actors working for LGBT equality.
The IDAHO Forum focused primarily on LGBT people in the labor market and social acceptance of LGBT people. ILGA Europe used the occasion to launch its annual Rainbow Map of Europe, with Transgender Europe, doing the same for the Transgender community. Both maps point out the sometimes appalling conditions for LGBT people in Europe.
As Workplace Pride is becoming more and more visible on the subject of LGBT workplace inclusion in Europe and abroad, David Pollard, Workplace Pride’s Executive Director, was invited as a keynote speaker. Pollard introduced the “Declaration of Amsterdam” to the conference audience as a means to emphasize the importance of a collaborate effort from both employers as well as LGBT employees.
“ Created in by Workplace Pride in 2011 the Declaration of Amsterdam’s 10 actions points, remains a solid goal for employers around the world who strive to create workplaces where LGBT people can be themselves. “ Said Pollard “ But the Declaration is also designed for organizations that take their LGBT clients into consideration and those that are proud to assert their support for our community”.
In addition to the “Declaration of Amsterdam”, Pollard also introduced the “Global Benchmark”, which opens for registration on June 1st. Although the “Global Benchmark” takes a more business-focused approach to creating change for LGBT employees, it made it clear to the IDAHO participants that a number of instruments can be used to achieve the same goal.
Following up on the IDAHO Forum in Copenhagen, Pollard will be speaking at the EU’s Council of Europe in Brussels on Friday, May 20th. He will be joined by representatives from ILGA Europe and the LGBT networks of the European Parliament and Commission.
