Workplace Pride is proud to announce that registration has opened for the first Workplace Pride Business Conference to be held in Bangkok on 28 November and in cooperation with ILGA World . This important event will open the door for greater inclusion of LGBT people at work in Southeast Asia.
“We are pleased to be working with local NGO, Rainbow Sky Association, to ensure that the culture of Thailand and other Southeast Asian countries are fully taken into account in the conference, particularly as this event will draw participants from the entire ASEAN region” said David Pollard, Executive Director of Workplace Pride.
ILGA is the International association working for LGBT rights in societies around the world. This Business Conference will be a side event to their annual international conference, being held in Bangkok this year, which attracts 500 delegates from many different countries. The topic of LGBT inclusion in the workplace is a largely unexplored topic in Southeast Asia, so together with Rainbow Sky, Workplace Pride and ILGA hope to foster progress among local, and international employers in the region.
“Asian culture moves to a different tune, both in the workplace and when it comes to LGBT topics in society” says Paul Overdijk, Advisory Board Member and part-time resident of Thailand. ” Workplace Pride will bring it’s decade worth of experience to the event and work with local business leaders and LGBT activists to ensure that it is correctly translated to the local context” said Overdijk.

We are pleased to open nominations for the 5th annual Workplace Pride Leadership Awards. These annual awards honor people and/or organizations that have demonstrated leadership by visibly contributing to LGBT workplace inclusion*.
This year’s Leadership Awards ceremony will be held during the Autumn Ball at the Westerkerk in Amsterdam. The top scorers of the 2016 Global Benchmark will also be announced.
Submitting a nomination for the Leadership Awards is an excellent way to involve many people from your organization in raising awareness about LGBT workplace inclusion. Details about the awards and how to submit nominations are as follows:
Most Engaged Network
This award honors the Workplace Pride member LGBT network that has shown the most involvement both internally and externally in the past year.
Most Active Volunteer
This award honors the individual volunteer from a Workplace Pride member that best supported LGBT workplace inclusion in the past year, both within their own organization and externally.
Most Effective Straight Ally
This award honors the most effective straight ally of the past year, both within their own organization and externally.
Best Media Representation
This award honors the best positive representation of LGBT workplace inclusion in the media (internal or external) by a Workplace Pride member in the past year.
1. Submitting of Nominations (7 Sep. – 9 Oct. 2016)
Anyone from Workplace Pride member organizations can submit nominations (including for yourself!). Nominations should include the name and role of the nominee, which award(s) they are being nominated for, a short motivation (250 words max. and preferably with concrete examples!) and should be sent by e-mail to: firstname.lastname@example.org.
2. Selection Process
- Three nominees from each category that best fit the established criteria (below) will be pre-selected and published on the Workplace Pride website. The Workplace Pride Foundation Board will make the final selection of the winners.
3. Announcement winners
- Winners will be announced at the Autumn Ball Gala dinner on Thursday 3 November at the Westerkerk*.
Inspired by the Declaration of Amsterdam, the general criteria for all four Leadership Awards are:
• Showing leadership in their field
• Not doing the obvious
• Persistence in achieving the desired result
• Involving others in a smart way
• Delivering a visible contribution to an LGBT inclusive workplace
• Being an international example (where applicable)
• Please inform all network members and as many straight allies as possible in your organization about the awards.
• Network leaders can nominate people and/or organizations too. You can even nominate yourself!
• No nominations will be accepted after 9 October 2016 at 24:00hrs.

On Sunday, August 29 th , Workplace Pride celebrated its 10-year anniversary at the Oude Slot Heemstede. For this joyous occasion the Foundation invited its members and friends to celebrate this milestone and to thank the many people and organizations that have helped Workplace Pride over the years.
“Without the support of our members, partners and friends we could not have made the progress we have over the last 10 years”, said David Pollard, Workplace Pride’s Executive Director. “There is still enough work to be done, so we hope to continue this journey together to ensure a safe and inclusive workplace for all”.
The beautiful castle grounds made a perfect setting for the celebration. The ever marvelous Dolly Bellefleur entertained the guests with her quick wit and on point songs, while Trio Balsamico’s Cuban music created a laid back summer atmosphere. All in all, a great day.
We would like to thank everyone who has helped us make this a special day or has shown their support otherwise!

October 11th marks the National Coming Out Day, when we celebrate and encourage coming out as lesbian, gay, bisexual or transgender to your family, friends or colleagues and create awareness for the LGBT community.
As in previous years, Workplace Pride is organizing its National Coming Out Day member contest. All you have to do is create an original digital poster that promotes LGBT diversity and inclusion in your organization and share this as a post on Social Media and Intranet. The aim is to reach a large audience and strengthen your organizations’ message on workplace inclusion.
The winner will receive two free tickets to the Autumn Ball’s Leadership Awards Dinner, which will be held in the Westerkerk on November 3rd.
All entries must be completed by Tuesday October 11th. The winner will be announced on October 25th.
