On Monday May 15th, the University of Delft’s Architecture School was the venue to the launching of Tech@WorkplacePride, the new program within the Foundation that joins Young@WorkplacePride and Women@WorkplacePride which all give special attention to defined groups from among Workplace Pride’s members. Tech@WorkplacePride specifically focuses on IT people, engineers and any technical individuals who feel a commonality not just because of their technical background, but also because they are LGBTI.
Mark Lammerts, Director of Communication at TU Delft, opened the evening by explaining how important this type of initiative is for the university. Other speakers included Carolien Gehrels, European Director Big Urban Clients at Arcadis, who is also on the Supervisory Board of TU Delft, Lennart Heip from Dow Chemical and Marc Koehler, Founder of Marc Koehler Architects. All of these inspiring presentations outlined how being yourself, even in the technical world, is a huge advantage in the workplace.
“It was very encouraging to see the approximately 60 participants from many different organizations who shared their thoughts about being LGBTI in the technical world”, said David Pollard, Executive Director Workplace Pride. “We look forward to many more engaging events from Tech@WorkplacePride and encourage all of our members to support them”.
