DEAR READER,

Months of preparation have finally paid off in fantastic Workplace Pride events these past two months. The LGBTI Workplace Symposium in Chennai, India last May broke new ground with the topic of LGBTI workplace inclusion, while the 2017 Workplace Pride International Conference in Brussels focused attention on the EU institutions last week. Both events were co-organized with local organizations, reinforcing our commitment to work where are members are active and to find the best means available to promote greater LGBTI workplace inclusion.

Pride season is just beginning though! Workplace Pride goes back to the grass roots with a Foundation-wide presence at the Amsterdam Pride Walk on 29 July, while one week later, our members will be offered the best view in town of the Canal Parade!

The rest of the year though will not be quiet at all! Shell is hosting a Workplace Pride conference in their office in Manila on 23rd of August and the 2nd of November is set for the LGBT workplace symposium in Nairobi.

Finally, we are happy to welcome our new members, Vodafone and ASML, and to congratulate Sodexo for signing the Declaration of Amsterdam. Their efforts to bring LGBTI inclusion to the forefront benefits not only all of their LGBTI employees, but everyone there who believes in Diversity and Inclusion!

David Pollard
Executive Director

Conference Sets LGBTI Inclusion Sights Higher

The Workplace Pride 2017 International Conference in Brussels set a new standard for how all types of organizations can work together to achieve more for LGBTI workplace inclusion. From private sector organizations to civil society; European Parliament Members to EU Commissioners; international activists to LGBTI network leaders, this conference truly brought a wide range of stakeholders together. Co-organizers, Workplace Pride and ILGA-Europe, coming from two different angles of the LGBTI movement, set the tone with their close cooperation in its preparation. Both organizations ensured that the most topical LGBTI issues were included in the discussions.

Erasmus MC LGBT+ Healthcare Survey

The Erasmus MC started a survey on care for LHBT+ patients. Research from the US shows that care for LHBT+ patients is different at some points. This might be caused by other living habits, past experiences, but also because LHBT+ sometimes feel/are misunderstood by healthcare providers. The researchers at Erasmus MC do a similar survey in the Netherlands to see if the results are comparable. They seek both patients with positive and negative experiences, people who are open about their sexual preference or gender and those who are not. Completing the survey (in Dutch) will only take 15 minutes.
