Workplace Pride Celebrates National Coming Out Day

Post Date: October 11, 2017

Today, National Coming Out Day, is a moment that the entire LGBTI community takes stock of where we have been, where we are, and where we are going with LGBTI emancipation.

Without a doubt, we have much to celebrate for LGBTI workplace emancipation! Workplace Pride’s 2017 Global Benchmark results shows a marked increase in the level of inclusion and engagement by major employers on LGBTI issues. Policy and communications surrounding this topic have increased while workplace awareness efforts and expertise and monitoring are holding steady.

Nonetheless, there is still work to be done in the areas of support and benefits for LGBTI people among employers around the world. This includes engagement with suppliers who, while playing a large role within organisations, are often not held accountable to the same level of LGBTI inclusion.

This evening Workplace Pride will announce the top scorers of the 2017 Global Benchmark at our annual Leadership Awards Gala with full results being published tomorrow in our New Horizons Magazine. There you will see the trends for international LGBTI workplace inclusion and find dozens of best practices taken from the benchmark results.

Throughout the day today, Workplace Pride’s members and many other organisations will celebrate National Coming Out Day with the hoisting of rainbow flags, dedicated events and all types of other activities to demonstrate that we can never stand still with LGBTI inclusion in the workplace or in society. Our Members’ efforts will be highlighted on this website and social media in the coming weeks to encourage allies, organisations and those LGBTI people who don’t feel that they have a voice that our movement is strong and determined to create workplaces around the world where all people can be themselves.

Happy National Coming Out Day
