About this event:
Purple Friday is a day on which pupils and students can show their solidarity with LGBTIQ+ people by
wearing the colour purple at school. In the Netherlands, the day has been held on the second Friday
of December every year since 2010. Purple Friday was inspired by Spirit Day in the United States,
which was first held in 2010 as an expression against bullying of LGBTIQ+ youth.
Purple Friday is traditionally celebrated at schools but over the last couple of years, we’ve seen that
higher education and corporate workplaces are embracing this celebration of solidarity with the
LGBTIQ+ community. During this hybrid lunch we’ll explore the Purple Friday theme: acceptance,
equality, and safety of all people of the LGBTIQ+ community in higher and secondary education from
a management and student perspective. The student generation is increasingly bothered by the
registration of gender. What positive steps can we take to get a good response to this?
