Declaration of Amsterdam
Since 2011, after Workplace Pride Amsterdam first developed the Declaration of Amsterdam, meaningful progress has been made for LGBTIQ+ people around the world. However, many LGBTIQ+ employees continue to face discrimination, harassment, and discomfort in the workplace. For over a decade, Workplace Pride has been striving to push the boundaries of LGBTIQ+ inclusion in the workplace. Signing the Declaration of Amsterdam is a positive for a business to start theirLGBTIQ+ inclusive journey. This document will introduce the why and how your organisation will benefit from signing the Declaration of Amsterdam.
- Inclusive corporate cultures where LGBTIQ+ employees feel valued, can be their authentic selves and realize their full potential
- Working environments for LGBTIQ+ people that go beyond minimum legal requirements of equality
- Active leadership from straight [heterosexual] allies and LGBTIQ+ role models who visibly support LGBTIQ+-inclusive workplaces
- Dedicated, declared, and active collaboration between employers and LGBTIQ+ employees to realize mutually beneficial improvements
WHY?
✓ Commitment
By signing the Declaration of Amsterdam, your organisation can share your commitment in fostering a more inclusive workplace for your LGBTIQ+ employees. This will allow your organisation to start a positive conversation on LGBTIQ+ inclusion internally and externally.
✓ Evaluation
You may have more room for improvement when it comes to workplace inclusion for LGBTIQ+ employees. That’s okay! The critical action is to evaluate the current situation so that you can identify and implement improvements. Workplace Pride Amsterdam will support your organisation in this journey by using the Global Benchmark Toolkit. It helps organisation understand their current LGBTIQ+ inclusion status qualitatively and quantitatively.
✓ Progress
An LGBTIQ+ inclusive workplace is like universal design. It doesn’t only benefit LGBTIQ+ employees but an inclusive workplace benefits all employees regardless of their gender identity or sexual orientation. Workplace Pride Amsterdam will assist your organisation by providing the Learning and Development Program that focuses on how an inclusive workplace increases employees’ psychological safety, happiness, and their performance.
HOW?
If you are a member of Workplace Pride Amsterdam, our relationship managers will help you examine ‘what’s next’ for your organisation. We will assist in how your organisation can best communicate your commitment to LGBTIQ+ inclusion in line with your organisational core values internally and externally. If you are not a member of Workplace Pride Amsterdam, your organisation can still start a constructive conversation on LGBTIQ+ inclusion in your organisation.
Please contact your Relationship Manager for more questions.
